In the world of coaching, Mindset and Beliefs are major buzzwords right now. Everyone is talking about them, trying to fix them, showing what transformations can happen. It's an exciting time, however it's also very overwhelming for those who are unsure of what this all means.
My aim with this blog is to really help you to understand the foundation of your Mindset and Beliefs:
Where did they come from?
Why did you decide to think this way?
Who influenced your behaviour?
What was the Root cause of a very painful limiting belief that you have?
Now don’t get me wrong - this is not for the faint hearted, but this type of exploration is incredibly beneficial. You must go full circle to draw a line. And what I mean by this is you must do the work, you must address the issues, you must be honest with yourself before you can move on and change your mindset and your life. Nothing will ever change if you don’t do the work.
Ok, so the first thing is all about where your mindset and beliefs came from. Between the ages of 0-7 years old childhood experiences impact on who you become, how you feel and behave., a stage known as the Imprint Years.
I just want you to reread that paragraph again. Isn’t that crazy? The fact that when we are at SUCH a young age that the environment around us, our family, our main caregivers are the people that are influencing, if not creating our mindset and belief system for us.
Now take a deep breath… I know this is a lot to take in, but do you want to hear the good news?
You can CHANGE it!
I think the most important thing I want to get across here is that you need to look way back to the start of your life - I know this may be incredibly difficult for you to do, but trust me this is where the magic happens. Once you know and understand the root cause of your Mindset and Beliefs then you can start working on changing them.
You are only aware of 5% of your own thoughts,
Yes, read that again. You are only aware of 5% of your own THOUGHTS. Yes, that’s right only 5% of them. The rest is all hidden in your subconscious mind. Do I also hear you ask what’s the difference between your conscious and your subconscious mind?
Your conscious mind is the thinking mind that accepts or rejects any information it’s presented with. Your subconscious mind is the emotional mind and doesn’t have the ability to think or recognise what’s reality or fiction.
As you can see your Subconscious Mind is what we discussed earlier – the beliefs, habits and emotions created in those early years. It's vitally important that you understand the foundations of your Mind and Mindset so then you can understand how it can be fixed.
For so many years prior to me training as a Mindset Coach I was stuck in a dangerous place with my mindset. For all my life I have been the chubby child, the fat friend, or the person people would say “you’re not fat just big boned” and this over time ate away at my self esteem and mindset. I overcompensated hugely for this – always being the bubbly one, the one that was super sociable and that loved a night out. This feeling of being unworthy took its toll eventually. For years, I would try varying diets and varying exercise regimes, and nothing stuck. At the age of 29, I hated myself. That was the lowest point. That was it… enough was enough.
Over many years, much soul searching and looking within, I was able to finally tell myself that I LOVE ME for ME and that I am worthy of love. As you can imagine this was pretty ground-breaking and what happened after this was like a catalyst of change. Things in my life started to unfold for the better. I started making and creating better relationships with people. I started attracting the right type of person into my life and I genuinely felt happier. Don’t get me wrong I would love to still fit into size 12 jeans, and maybe one day I might, but right now, in this moment, I am proud to say that I love myself just the way I am – warts and all as they say!
Can you see what happened here? My beliefs and habits were all centred around this “not being worthy” and it not only impacted my thoughts, but it impacted every part of my life.
Mindset is EVERYTHING.
If you can take anything away from what I have written, then please remember this:
You can change your mindset – nothing is set in stone.
To make a lasting change, get yourself a Mindset Coach, someone who you can relate to and who can really help you make these long-lasting changes.
Spend some time thinking about your upbringing and those closest to you, and how they could have had an impact on your Mindset.
Think about how you want to be. Think about how you can get there….one step at a time.
Be kind to yourself.
